P.R.A.Y. FOR SMALL GROUPS

Purpose:

  • To cultivate the spiritual discipline of spending daily time with God
  • To encourage one another Godward
  • To be accountable for one another

The Works

  • As a Small Group, decide on a reading plan for a set length of time, e.g. Word In Season
  • Start a chatgroup via WhatsApp or Telegram, or a Facebook closed group
  • The SGL or Transformation champion will send a prompt to the group nightly, reminding members to read and reflect the next day
  • Members do the day’s reading, reflect and pray using the P.R.A.Y. framework (details below), then post their reflections and prayer in the group
  • Do not post any other things in the group except what is pertaining to the readings, reflection and prayer

P.R.A.Y. Framework

On an individual level, each member is to:

  • Set aside TIME each day for Time alone with Abba
  • Read the assigned Bible text for the day
  • P.R.A.Y. based on what you have read (details below)
  • POST your reflections and prayer in the group anytime during the day (example below)

See who God is and what He has done from the Bible text, and praise Him. It can be a song that the Holy Spirit inspired you to during your quiet time before the Lord.

Seeing who God is from the Bible text shows us who we are in true light. A vision of a God high and lifted up reveals to us our sin and increases our love for Him. Grief and love lead to genuine repentance.

  • For a cleansing flow
  • For a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit and His revelation and wisdom
  • For what and who the Spirit wants you to pray
  • Pray through the passage and your application, asking God to change your heart and life based on your time spent in God’s Word
  • Verse reflection and prayer of submission to God’s revelation

Bible Text – Psalm 6:6-7

I am weary from my groaning;
with my tears I dampen my bed
and drench my couch every night.
My eyes are swollen from grief;
they grow old because of all my enemies.

Reflection & Prayer

You are so good Lord. I can whine to You. I can be vulnerable to You and You will hear! So often I continue to put up a façade, not just in front of people but in front of You also. You are the God who sees, even into the deepest of my heart. I cant fool You. Bring me to total honesty and transparency with You Lord, as I examine my life and my faith Lord.

If there are facades that I have built and grown so used to that I’ve become spiritually blind, would You O Lord, please tear them down for me? In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
